SUMMER INTENSIVES LED BY INTERNATIONAL GUEST ARTISTS

New Ballet’s intensives provide students with concentrated training over multiple hours, as well as mentorship and networking opportunities. Special sessions focus on choreography, self-care practices, and career trajectories while promoting health and well-being. 

Levels 5, 6 & 7 Intensives and CityDance culminate with New Ballet’s exciting Summerdance performance on Friday, June 17 at 7:30 pm at The Halloran Centre for the Performing Arts at The Orpheum Theatre.

Weekly audition opportunities are open to all student dancers in the Mid-South and are scheduled by appointment only. Please call (901) 726-9225 to make arrangements. Video auditions are accepted. $25 audition fee (waived if qualifying for need-based scholarship - per case basis)

Current New Ballet students are automatically accepted into Summer Intensives, and assigned to a level based on their ability. The intensive fee is included in annual tuition for Levels 5, 6, and 7. Scholarships apply.

Levels 6 and 7 Intensives | May 31-June 17, 2022

Performance / June 17 / The Halloran Centre / 7:30pm

Approximate ages 14 - 18 with a minimum of six years of ballet training and two+ years on pointe for those who choose to pursue pointe work. Tuition: $800 / Limited, need-based scholarships available. 
The intensive fee is included in the annual tuition for New Ballet students. Scholarships apply.

This is a rigorous three-week program designed for experienced student dancers, and taught by renowned professionals. Classes include Pilates, ballet, pointe, variations, modern dance, and contemporary. Pas de deux work is implemented in week one. Other opportunities include introductions or follow-up workshops in physical therapy, nutrition, bridge building, and social justice. Career and college information workshops support students' growth as they plan for the future. The intensive culminates with New Ballet's exciting Summerdance performance.

Level 5 Intensive & CityDance | June 06-17, 2022

Performance / June 17 / The Halloran Centre / 7:30pm

  • Level 5: Approximate ages 11 - 13 with a minimum of four years of training. Experience in pointe is not required. Tuition: $500 / Limited, need-based scholarships available. The intensive fee is included in the annual tuition for New Ballet students. Scholarships apply.

  • CityDance: Grades 5-7 for New Ballet Pathways' students in Memphis Shelby County Schools. Free / By invitation only.

Level 5 Intensive
For this two-week intensive, participants can expect to make considerable progress by participating in  rigorous classes in  ballet, jumping, turning, and pointe work or jumps for the first part of the day. In the afternoons, this group will combine with CityDance participants and together they will shift to bridge building activities along with challenging classes in West African, Hip-hop, and improvisation genres.  Both groups will collaborate to create a new work that will be presented at the Summerdance performance. All students will offer creative input into the final product. 

CityDance
For this two week program, invited MSCS students from New Ballet’s Pathway’s programs will participate in a rigorous, and fun day of dance classes spanning several genres. Mornings will consist of classes in styles such as Modern and fundamentals of classical dance technique.The afternoons will be spent in combined classes with the Level 5 intensive participants and will include bridge building sessions, challenging classes in West African and Hip hop genres along with improvisation exercises. Both groups will collaborate to create a new work that will be presented at the Summerdance performance. All students will offer creative input into the final product. 

The combination of these intensives has become a cherished milestone for New Ballet dancers. It is the work from which Lil Buck sprang and from which student dancers have come to realize the hard work required of dancers. It’s also a lot of fun!

Level 4 | June 27-July 1, 2022

In-Studio Demonstration

Approximate ages 9 to 11 with a minimum of two years of training.

Tuition: $300 / Limited, need-based scholarships available. Optional for New Ballet students, the intensive fee is not included in the annual tuition. 

A one-week introduction to intensives for younger dancers seeking to explore multiple genres while building on the work achieved thus far in the studio or school training. Daily study provides a platform for quick improvement and preparation for future levels and challenges! Pointe work is not included at this level. Students will showcase their work at the end of the intensive in a studio performance.

Staff instructors include Catherine Barkley (Ballet and Modern/Horton), London Bruce (Afro-Caribbean). Guest artists are to be announced.
