Aaron Atkins (Contemporary Ballet)
South Carolina native Aaron Atkins was already an up-and-coming contemporary ballet dancer when he was selected for the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities. While still in school, he made his professional debut with Classical Contemporary Ballet Theatre in 2007. He performed with Ballet Savannah as a principal dancer and as a guest artist with several other regional companies. He relocated to New York in 2010, working with Ballet Hispanico and BH Dos.
He founded his own company, Ballet Inc., in 2012, which appeared at over 50 national and international dance festivals. Ballet Inc.'s sold-out performances in New York were acclaimed as “Hard-hitting..Powerful..Beautiful..Sensual” by Broadway World Dance. Aaron has received a number of awards for his choreography, including the 2015 Lounsbery Choreography Award. Jamaica Performing Arts Center and Earthside have commissioned his work.
Aaron has taught at the prestigious Eglevsky Ballet School and as a guest teacher at pre-professional intensives and dance forums along the east coast. This is his first season with New Ballet Ensemble & School.
