Virtual Learning

New Ballet is committed to maintaining a professional standard of dance training through these unprecendented times. Training will now be conducted virtually through pre-recorded instructional Youtube videos made for your children by their NBE Teaching Artists, as well as holding live classes during their normally scheduled classes via Zoom.

Zoom class links and passwords will be distributed weekly via email from Kathy Coburn (kathy [at] newballet [dot] org). Please contact Kathy if you would like to be added to the email distribution list in addition to others in your household. Links to our classes will not be posted here for privacy reasons.

Are you a new student interested in registering for online classes? Please email Mary Golden,  mary [at] newballet [dot] org

READ in the NYTimes about the importance of continuity and persistence in the face of COVOID-19 from a ninety-two year old veteran piano teacher, a Holocaust survivor. "I believe strongly in continuity. My students learn to be persistent in what they are doing. I try to teach them not only how to learn, but how to work".

Online Classes: Dance at Home Materials, Safety Precautions and Guidelines

Please limit the dance space in your home to the individual participating and a parent if student is under age 10. Please assure that the teacher is on full screen.

If a sibling under 18 must be in the room, please advise that they are not to participate in class, approach the camera or speak into the microphone (most students are kept on mute until they raise their hands).

THE POWER OF OBSERVATION AS A LEARNING TOOL IS GREAT! We learn from analysis and observation as well as by being mindful about our own technique. When observing ballets from other dance companies or schools online, please exercise these analytical skills and look for how the dancers achieve challenging steps.

We recommend that you first participate in New Ballet YouTube classes assigned to your level. These will be in your inbox and are numbered to keep you on pace. If you participate in others' classes online, please observe the safety precautions located on this page.
