Blakeley White-McGuire (Modern)

Ms. White-McGuire joined the Martha Graham Company in 2002 and swiftly attained principal dancer status. During her 15 years with the company she performed all of the major Graham roles - in Every Soul is a Circus, Appalachian Spring, Diversion of Angels, Phaedra, and Night Journey and many others. She had new works created for her by major choreographers including Jacqueline Buglisi, Martha Clarke, Nacho Duato, Sean Curran, Richard Move, Pascal Rioult, and led the Graham Company on numerous American and international tours. Some of her honors from that time include  the Premio Positano Leonide Massine prize for Contemporary Dance Performance from the Italian government, the Italian International Career Achievement Award, and she was named one of the best performers of 2011, 2012, and 2013 by Dance Magazine.

White-McGuire left the Graham Company in 2017 and since then has staged Graham repertoire on Paul Taylor Dance and Royal Ballet of Flanders, choreogrpahed for over a dozen companies, including New Ballet Ensemble, performed select engagements, and joined the faculty of New York's LaGuardia High School of Performing Arts as the master teacher of Graham Technique.

She earned her MFA Goddard College and has served on the faculties of The Ailey School, The New School, The Actors' Studio, New Ballet Ensemble & School, and has been a faculty member of The Graham School since 2001.

 

Ms. White-McGuire holds a BA in dance from SUNY and has taught at the Ailey School, the Martha Graham School, the Neighborhood Playhouse, and The Actors' Studio.
