Noelia Garcia Carmona (Dance Program Director)
Barcelona native Noelia Garcia Carmona graduated from Institut del Theatre i Dansa de Barcelona. She is an expert in executing and teaching the complex and challenging rhythms that are the foundation of Spanish Dance. Noelia’s Creative Movement classes for young children introduce modern concepts, movements to a strong base of Spanish Dance and ballet training. She believes that contemporary dance can enhance Spanish Dance without destroying the most important tenets of its traditions. Noelia is a Flamenco and Contemporary dancer, choreographer and teacher. She is Catalan, having lived and worked in Barcelona and Madrid (Spain), and has performed throughout Europe, in China, Israel and the Philippines. Noelia is a founding member of Barcelona's ground-breaking Increpacion Danza company.
With New Ballet Ensemble and School since 2003, in addition to teaching Flamenco, Ms. Garcia Carmona has choreographed a number of works including Yendo (sponsored by ArtsMemphis and the ABC grant), El Rey de Harlem and the authentic representations of Spanish Dance in the annual Nut Remix.
She collaborates regularly with Latino Memphis and has created works for Congresso and La Dia de los Muertos.
Ms. Garcia Carmona teaches Level 3 Ballet and Levels 5-7 Flamenco dance and Esquéla Bolera.
