Boys Technique
All classes at New Ballet School are designed to educate both male and female students. Boys Technique is specifically designed for boys ages 6 - 10 who prefer to be in a class with all boys. Fundamentals of technique are pulled from each genre and include, ballet barre, modern center, Horton technique and Jazz isolations. Hip Hop may be included in the final 15 minutes of class and is offered to engage the boys in choreography that is immediately engaging and participatory in this early stage. In the process, the boys learn to "pick up" choreography, memorize sequences and patterns and are able to "move" right away. Once boys are educated in the fundamentals of technique, they may be moved to a Core Ballet class.
Wednesdays, 4:00 - 5:00PM
Creative Movement
Boys and girls ages 3-6 are given the opportunity to explore movement for the first time in these 45 minute classes. Creative Movement classes enhance the development of young children’s motor skills by introducing basic concepts, movement and rhythms. Children learn through play. In this introduction to the discipline of ballet class, play is incorporated into the lesson. New Ballet classes offer the balance between the freedom to create or and the necessary discipline or focus required for students to progress into the ballet classroom. Creative Movement classes are divided into two age groups: 3-4 year olds and 5-6 year olds. The 5-6 year old class is a preparation for Pre-Ballet. Free movement (the opportunity to improvise) is still an important ingredient of the class.
Mandy Possel teaches the Brain Dance by Anne Greene Gilbert and has a very playful approach for the ages 3-4 students while Noelia Garcia Carmona brings a modern and multicultural sense to the classroom while instilling order and discipline in a tranquil environment for the ages 5 - 6 students. Nursery rhymes are incorporated in both classes. Boys also love this class and enjoy dancing across the floor as a T-Rex or any creature or character they choose.
Attire:
Girls -Pink leotard and pink or tan tights and shoes; Boys - white T-shirt and black shorts, white shoes and socks. (Shoes and tights are not required for Creative movement; however most children prefer to wear the entire uniform.)

Although free movement (the opportunity to improvise) and "mapping the floor" are still important class components, more class time will be devoted to beginning barre work and learning the French terminology of dance.
THIS CLASS IS A NATURAL PROGRESSION FROM CREATIVE MOVEMENT for children who excel. A child may be 5 or 6 years of age when admitted at the discretion of the instructor.
