Pilates at New Ballet
Mel Pyron and Amanda Kramer instruct small classes in reformer, tower and mat classes.
Privates and group lessons are available.
Mat Class - a full body Pilates workout that stregthens and tones the core, back, legs and arms with a concentration on proper breathing and alignment. Sometimes excercises include props such as the ball, roller, thera-band and circle.
Equipment Class - a full body workout on the mat, Pilates Reformer and/or Pilates Springboard which provides additional stability to the exercises along with additional weight bearing training.
"Practiced faithfully, Pilates yields numerous benefits. Increased lung capacity and circulation through deep, healthy breathing is a primary focus. Strength and flexibility, particularly of the abdominal and back muscles, coordination-both muscular and mental, are key components in an effective Pilates program. Posture and balance, and core strength are all heartily increased. Bone density and joint health improve, and many experience positive body awareness for the first time."

Melanie Pyron began her study of movement and the human body in the fine arts. Figure drawing and painting lead her to schools in London, Germany, and Barcelona. In 2001 she began a deeper study of anatomy and movement therapies at The Massage Institute of Memphis. The next year she began full Pilates certification through Ellie Herman Pilates Studios.
With respect and awe at many disciplines of movement she completed 100hrs of Om Yoga teacher training at Midtown Yoga and a 200hr yoga TT with Variyoga in Fayetteville, Arkansas. There, she also studied advanced massage therapy for chronic pain as an intern with physical therapist, Joseph Reagan, MSPT. In 2008 San Luis Obispo, California she completed a year long certification in the Gyrotonic Expansion System® Level 1. For the year of 2009 she traveled to Costa Rica to teach and practice at a studio affiliated with Pilates Master Michael Miller.
Drawing from a diverse background in disciplines and culture, Mel hopes to enliven those who come to her sessions by encouraging the building of an awareness of their bodies, an increase in quality of breath, a fun, flowing work out and a deeper level of strength!
Amanda Kramer's passion for the art of bodywork began while practicing yoga in Portland, Oregon, which in turn took her to Asheville, NC. She was certified at the Asheville Yoga Center through the guidance of Stephanie Keach and many other teachers. Wanting to broaden her understanding of posture and alignment she was drawn to Pilates because of it’s focus on kinesthetic anatomy and movement based on stability and functionality . She studied under Susan Powers, who is PMA certified as well as being a Franklin Method, level 2 educator. Amanda is comprehensively certified, and incorporates her background in massage therapy, yoga, and Pilates when working with her clients. She strives to teach with a balanced view of the body while inspiring and challenging her clients through movement enhanced through a mind-body connection.
